the day I wore a sablay

Today was the college graduation for the students of FSUU. I've seen those faces before asking for promissory notes just to get by every exam. And I was even happier seeing their parents who were very proud for their achievements. Hence, I started reminiscing my college graduation.

I will never forget the day, it was April 26, 2006. Yes! Our graduation is set in April so most of us if not all were already working by that time. What was memorable about it was that it was also the year my kuya graduated from college and my younger brother graduated from high school. There was even a point when my parents almost decided that either one of us should stop schooling because it was financially grueling for the family. But by the grace of God we were able to surpass those days.

My only request from my parents was that all of them should attend my graduation. I have been independent during my college years but I want to savor this time of the year with them. My papa, mama, kuya and ewing was there in Cebu to witness me wearing a sablay. The sablay which I borrowed from my cousin who graduated previously from UP Leyte. That goes to show how insufficient our funds were. I had to do my own hair and make up but hey I had new clothes and shoes.Yaye! We had spaghetti, lechon manok and lumpia(I think) for our graduation dinner which we shared with my relatives in Mambaling.

Thinking about it makes me emotional and at the same time it has made me a better person today. Graduation is just one day, what you do after that is more important. I told myself that if i have been a good student all my life, I will strive to become a good family member too and help my parents with the family's expenses. I also experienced being a parent to my younger brother and man, it was never easy so I honestly feel for all those parents.

I work hard. I live a simple life. And I try my best to enjoy life's simple pleasures to reward my hard work. That was what I learned in college which is also applicable after college. May the graduates hold on to their principles and never stop learning.

Kudos graduates! And congratulations to all the parents!*clapclap*
